  • Stye and Marginal Chalazion – Both are lumps in and along the edge of an eyelid. A chalazion is a blocked oil gland that appears inside the eyelid and an eye stye appears on the upper or lower eyelid.
  • Tiredness and Corneal burns – Tiredness and burning scratchy sensation in the cornea of the eyes are commonly experienced in the summer season every year.
  • Digital Eyestrain – Frequent blinking of the eyes is advisable to prevent digital eye strains. Digital eye strain (DES) also known as computer vision syndrome is a result of long screens hours of using smartphones and digital screens for a long period.

  • Stay hydrated – Experts advise that it is crucial to stay hydrated throughout the year but a little more hydration is needed to beat the harsh strokes of the summer season. Hence, drink an adequate amount of water to keep your eyes healthy and smiling.
  • Wash your hands frequently –This is one of the simplest and best ways to block all sorts of health disorders and infections around you. It protects the eyes and other parts of the body from bacteria and infections.
  • Don’t step out without sunscreen - This season comes with undeniable heat and the flaming Ultra Violet (UV) rays radiation which can be extremely dangerous. A proper eye care routine is essential in summers and that includes the use of the right sunscreen depending upon your skin type and requirement.
  • Avoid looking directly at the sun – Staring at the sun feels so soothing in winters but ironically that’s not the case in summer. Direct eye contact with the sun can damage your eyes even if you don’t realize it immediately. Don’t forget, eyes also get sunburned just like the skin.
  • Don’t swim with contact lenses -Swimming and showering without removing the contact lenses can be the root cause of many eye disorders. It can cause discomfort and may lead to contamination and severe eye infections. So, make sure you never shower or swim with your contact lenses on.
  • Avoid heavy eye makeup – Keeping it minimal is the key. Summer calls for less is more theory which applies to our makeup regime as well. Avoid dark colors and try to use minimum makeup for your eyes especially if you are going to be out in the sun.
  • Choose sunglasses with UV protection – The right sunglasses are a combination of style and proper eye protection. Overexposure to the sun can cause several eye diseases and so it is important to choose sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays.
  • Avoid direct air conditioner exposure – Staying in AC for too long can worsen the condition of your eyes and can lead to eye-related problems such as sore eyes, sensation, watering, and dryness. Though the comforting environment that ac gives is inevitably pleasing but also contributes to drying your eyes out.
  • Keep a check for eye examination – Above all, scheduling an eye exam whenever feeling discomfort is a must. Getting regular eye check-ups can prevent many eye-related issues and contribute to maintaining healthy eyes.
